WELSH HOUSE BUILDERS BLAME RED TAPE FOR 12% DROP IN HOUSE BUILDS

Wales is lagging behind the UK in terms of new house builds with the UK as a whole having a 28% increase in 2013 and Wales with an astonishing fall of 12%.

This has been blamed on a mixture of over regulation, poor planning system and the delayed Help to Buy Scheme. LivEco agrees that the planning system needs to be speeded up and Help to Buy should have been introduced 12 months ago. We agree that there is over regulation in certain aspects, BUT National Housebuilders will never embrace sustainability measures unless they are enforced legally.

Alan Gillard, LivEco director, was interviewed on ‘Good Morning Wales’  and commented that the difference between Wales and England was very noticeable. Could it be down to the fact that in English planning law there is a presumption in favour of sustainable development?
